Using AI During the Hiring Process at ServiceNow

At ServiceNow, we put AI to work for people — thoughtfully, responsibly, and with ethics at the core. Throughout the hiring journey, we apply AI in ways that prioritize fairness, transparency, and a human-first approach. We are excited to meet candidates who share these values, and this guidance sets out when and how candidates should use AI when applying to, or interviewing with, ServiceNow.

Our goal: fair, human-first hiring

We will always be transparent about how we use AI in the hiring process. Broadly speaking, we use AI to increase efficiency and help build an exceptional candidate experience, while always maintaining our commitment to responsible use and human oversight. We ask our candidates to share that same spirit of openness and transparency, and to approach the hiring process ready to showcase their unique skills, experience, and strengths with authenticity.

Use AI to help prepare

We encourage candidates to thoughtfully use AI to help prepare for applications and interviews. Whether it’s organizing your thoughts, refining your resume, or practicing interview questions, AI can be a helpful tool. Just make sure everything you share is accurate and genuinely reflects your own experience, skills, and voice.

Be yourself during interviews and evaluations

We value your individual abilities and insights, and we want to get to know the authentic you. That’s why we expect all evaluation stages of the hiring process — including interviews (videos or in-person), online tests, technical challenges, and any other skill evaluations — to be completed independently, without any AI assistance or outside help, unless we explicitly say otherwise (for example, by asking you to use a specific AI tool in the context of a coding exercise). We will be clear when AI use is permitted.

We rely on these evaluation processes to understand your unique strengths, problem-solving approach, and potential to thrive at ServiceNow. Using unauthorized tools compromises the fairness of the process.

Please also note that, to protect the privacy of candidates and our interviewers, and to maintain the integrity of our hiring processes, we also prohibit candidates from recording interviews — whether in audio, video, or text form — using any means, including AI and non-AI tools.

Any violation of these guidelines may impact your candidacy, including potential disqualification from the hiring process or rescinding of an offer.

Questions?

If you’re unsure whether something is permitted or if you need clarification on these guidelines, please reach out to your recruiter.  If you require any accommodations during the hiring process, please let us know as early as possible.

These guidelines will be regularly reviewed to reflect our evolving AI practices.
